Evergreen Fire Rescue’s Communications Center handles several thousand emergency related calls each year. For example, in 2005 we received 5,400 calls and we dispatched 2,027 actual calls for emergency service. Although our call volume promises to climb each year, our service to our community will now keep pace with that growth as a result of the voter-approved mill levy increase, grants and employee commitment, all of which are investments in Evergreen’s safety.

One of the most important services we offer -- both to our own customers and to neighboring fire departments -- is EMD (emergency medical dispatch), where dispatchers coach 911 callers through an emergency and instruct them how to perform life-saving first aid until our crews arrive. Because we staff our communications center with two-EMD certified dispatchers 24/7, we meet the standards of service set by the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials and the National Fire Protection Association. Additionally, Evergreen Fire Rescue Dispatcher Christy McCormick, our EMD Coordinator, is the Training Chairperson for EMD of Colorado.
