A new emergency notification system is coming to the residents of Evergreen Fire Protection District that will allow the registration of their Voice over IP (VoIP) or Wireless Telephones (Cells) for notification when their address is impacted by a disaster or emergency. This program is comparable to the program that is already in place that, when necessary, a 9-1-1 Center sends out an emergency message to a specific geographical area for a fire or law enforcement agency, with a recorded message to hardwired phones (home & businesses). This area could be as small as an apartment complex, to a few blocks, to several miles in size. Examples of emergency notification include SWAT calls, where law enforcement wants all residents to stay inside where they are safe; a hazardous materials spill situation where you may need to evacuate your home; a wildfire that is threatening structures; etc.
Since the instructions are different depending on the circumstances, it is critical to listen to the entire message and follow the instructions for your safety. Please do not call 9-1-1 to verify the message, or to seek further information. Notification will be sent out again to those same homes and businesses when the situation is no longer a danger to you.
Citizens will be able to register more than one phone number for an address to be notified. Each phone number can only be associated with one address in the system. This program is only for residents and for the jurisdictions of Jefferson /Broomfield Counties.
“We have a commitment to our citizens to protect them from any danger that threatens our community”, said DeAnna McMahan, Evergreen Fire /Rescue’s Communications Manager. “The ability to reach all citizens quickly during an emergency to warn them and provide guidance is critical to upholding that commitment, which is why we are rolling out the wireless opt-in program.”
